Jiawei Zheng

Jiawei Zheng joined Initiative for the Digital Economy (INDEX) in 2024 as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow for DigitLab project. His research focuses on developing AI (Artificial Intelligence) approaches for digital transformation in various domains, including manufacturing, health, care, Activities of Daily Living, etc. His research addresses topics related to machine and deep learning, data science, process mining, Internet of Things (IoT) and Blockchain.

Prior to this, he obtained his PhD in AI in September 2024 from the University of Edinburgh, supervised by Prof. Jacques Fleuriot, Prof. Jane Hillston and Dr. Petros Papapanagiotou. His PhD research focusing on leveraging domain-specific knowledge (processes) to enhance the performance and interpretability of machine learning models and handling uncertain and probabilistic data.

He was involved in the Advanced Care and Research Centre (ACRC), a large-scale multidisciplinary project aimed at developing data-driven innovations to enhance elderly care. His research focuses on utilizing pervasive sensors (wearable and ambient sensors) to better understand the daily routines and health status of older adults.

He is currently exploring on how large language models (LLMs) can be harnessed to revolutionize digital transformation. By integrating LLMs with his expertise in pervasive sensors and AI, he aims to develop transformative tools that enhance the development of digital solutions to real-world challenges in healthcare and beyond.
