Prof. Mark Thompson and co-author is working on identifying six “Plays” evident within the recent UK government IT and services landscape, each of which aims to harness platform innovation. Through synthesising the academic literature on commercial platforms, Mark is developing an evaluative framework to compare and contrast these Plays, concluding that there is in fact a broad range of possible platform strategies available to policymakers in the public domain, and that it is important that government increases its understanding of its strategic and commercial purpose with regards to each.
